Dear Brother
Yours of the 4th Nov has been duly received yesterday the reason that I did not receive it before was that I was not with the Regt. you speak of being lucky in not getting sick that I also learned I was quite well till we marched from Frankfort to Bowling Green where I was left behind & the Regt moved on to Scotsville where your letter was received and sent back to me but I in the meantime left B G to rejoin my Regt and so the letter was left at Bowling Green till we came to this place when our Col had some business at B G and went back and brought all the letters along. You say of my spirits being below par that was a good deal so at first as unexperienced as I was but it is getting better the longer we are here the boys begin to know their duty and do it and our Co has the reputation of being one of the best Cos in the Regt. Of which I feel proud and which also makes the boys feel so next you speak of sickness that is so far the Sicklist is generally quite large but of your acquaintances not many there are Reinking. Volberang & John Schott who have been indisposed for several days the first 2 are Corps and are pretty good to, which are very scarce in our Regt because some of the best men don’t care much about some ofices [sic] but I will close in hope of soon hearing from you give my best respects to Grottman, Shirmer, Schmidt, Radtke and all the rest of the Addison Squad and tell them also to write occasionally.
I Am Your Affectionate brother
