Dear Son!
Your letter of the 18th last Month has been received a few days ago. I am glad that according to its contents you Seem to bee [sic] well although you are almost bothered to death by Mosquitoes and reptiles, but all we can do is to pity you hoping however as you have Stood plagues and evils So long, you will be able to Stand them the Short time you have to Serve yet, after which you may have ample time rest yourselve [sic] and [illegible] your perhaps broken down constitution. As you wish to know about the time when it would be most convenient to go to the Normal School I have concluded to leave it intirely [sic] to you, although it will be perhaps a buissy [sic] time this fall, I think I will be able to get help for although we have to pay pretty high for help I could always get help enough to do all we want to do, but it Seems by your writing that you intend to Stay at Bloomington and not com [sic] home first after you are discharged that however will not do, for we are all anxious to See you and wait patiently for your arrival and we are a little disapointed allready [sic] for we expected you would be discharged on the 20th of this Month. Mother also thinks that you will want to be cleaned and mended and will have to get an entirely new Suit of Clothes, and when you are here we arrange other things at leisure, brother August last letter is dated July 27th, 1864. He writes that he is all right it Seems that Reg. was not in any heavy engagement Since the 20th of July where of Herman I believe has already written to you in a letter from home dated July 11, which he says he got a few days before we heard from you else he Should not know whether you was alive. Yet for the last letter we had from you was dated May 1st, he writes that there was Some hard fighting out there left on the 21st & 22nd and laments with the death of Gen. McPherson we also had One or Two letters from H. Reinking who is in the Hospital at Nashville he thinks his wound is getting along pretty well and will perhaps will get forlough and come home if he can Stand traveling. August thinks that one or two more Successful engagements will use up the rebels nearly in Georgia, I really hope they will use them up on Some places to come nearer to the end though I fear we are not much then we where (were) when you enlisted for it Seems that they allways as much forces as we in the field, I hope that the last call for 500,000 by the President will be complyed with believing that it will be so much for the rebels then and they will be forced to give it up. Harvest has come on pretty early this year for if we have one more week favorable weather we will nearly done Stacking Crops. Did Seem to fail alltogether one Spell but turns out to be midling good yet brother Herman & little George have done remarkable well in Haying and Harvesting so far, we will have to make most of our Hay after Harvest for we had to leave off Haying and commence Harvesting, as I do not know anything more of interest to write about I will close here with, and by giving you my blessing and best wishes remain
