Description

Undated letter to Frederick Fischer of the 33rd Illinois Regiment from his sister Eliza and brother William. Paper has a drawing in blue of a draped figure holding a wreath with a flag in the background. Eliza writes about Alvina who is not yet walking and can say "Papa" and "Mama." William writes they have "Inglish" school and ice and snow which will soon melt. Inked script is on three panels of a sheet of folded paper.

Dear Brother! We received your letter dated Jan. 4th and we were so glad that you are well yet, we are well to. I wish you was here and then we could talk with you, and you would have a better time here then you have down there and then you could sleep in a warm bed again. Little Alvina is such a little______girl that we must sometimes laugh at her. She can’t ________yet, but I think she will walk soon, she eats most all what we eat, and she can say papa and mama. I don’t know what else to write so I will close. My best respects to you. Your sister Eliza Fischer Dear Brother, We received your letter feb.___. We have got inglish school again here ________is Elater, and we must speak and spell Fridays when the school is almost out. Here is but a little snow now, but here is so much ice that we can skate on all sloughs. But I think it is not so cold here and I believe that the ice here will melt soon to. Now I will close and give my best respects to you. Your brother William
