…soldiers , of course there are some exceptions, Louis Schmidtt, is now Sergeant he is a very good soldier, about as cool as anybody in our Reg’t, in an engagement, the men all feel as if they wanted to get out of the Army. But I cannot say that they are discouraged, a great majority of the soldiers here feel confident of success. Although they think that we have to serve our time out.
I received a letter from father on the 26th July, dated July 16th they were all well at that time. Father wrote that he had not heard from you for a long while. ____________
from your letter that you would ________ ________ but think that it would be _______
______ ______ patience to read long letters ______ ______ ______ mistaken in that.
__________ ____________ half letters enough. __________ ____________ _____
one letter yet _________ __________ __________ thing that I have yet read in letters that I have received has been interesting to me. I wish if you write again you would write something about my acquaintances in your Regt. Wakeman, Schirmer, Holzkampf, and others who has reenlisted and who has not? How those that did not reenlist feel about going home? I think if I was in their place I should feel thankfull for not having reenlisted. I think there is time for reenlisting after one term is out. I do not know of anything else at present so I will close giving my best wishes and respects to you & all acquaintances.
Your Brother
