The exterior lid of this lovely box includes a miniature watercolor painting by Balthasar Wigand. During his lifetime, his paintings were highly popular and found on many 'every-day' objects.The box has fine mother-of-pearl veneers with elaborate gilt escutcheon, and frame that surround a miniature watercolor featuring an elaborate background including the Weilburg palace with surrounding towers, countryside, mountains, rivers, bridge, village and a wide boulevard with 17 persons featured in various activities. The case opens to mirrored backwith coral cording and with original velvet-fitted base containing an original set of mother-of-pearl sewing tools.
