Description

A large white open weave fabric with four border patterns surrounding central motifs. The outermost border is made up of polychrome "X"-forms with corner blocks, followed by a border with elephants, some with birds on their backs, a border of stars, and an innermost border with masks. The center of the sampler is a stylized floral an dfigural field with flowers and three female figures. In a black and gold frame.

This is an example of Anglo-Indian embroidery and possibly was made in India for the English tourist trade.
