This quilt depicts the heyday of the career of Israel Fruchter, a master tinsmith. Relying on his two hands alone, Fruchter built a family, a home, a thriving workshop with several employees, and a modern new Jerusalem. He contributed to the construction of many public buildings in his chosen hometown, the most known of which was the dome of the famous Montefiore windmill.
The quilt, made in the rusty colors that dominated his workshop, shows Fructher and two of his workers in his workshop’s courtyard on a rare, snowy day. It depicts his hands at work, and many of the actual tools he used. It also shows his most well-known achievement. Whilst a homage to a specific man, my grandfather, this is also a song of praise to all laborers and the amazing things they create with their hands.Label Type
