The women in this print are people of the rainforest. But here the rain is not water, but skulls, as the rainforest is decimated. Jacquin uses an innovative approach to drawing these women, who are at once simplified and uniquely recognizable as indigenous people. The contrasting text, 500 Years of Resistance, suggests that for these women, survival is resistance.
Born in Colombia, Jacquin attended school in San Francisco and earned an MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute. Jacquin also created and printed a series of Lotería-like cards about the lives of Latin American immigrant women at Gráfica.
