Native American muralist and printmaker Jean LaMarr (Pit River/Paiute) works in a variety of print media including lithography and etching. This image is based on her etching entitled Seven from Hell. The four people pictured here are Columbus, with his three ships above him; a priest with a cross; a skeleton harlot, with a rose behind her ear; and a pimp. The poster advertised the Mission Cultural Center’s Second Annual Women’s Exhibition and marks the 500th year since Columbus landed in North America. The annual Women’s Exhibition still occurs, with many of the promotional posters printed by Gráfica.
