Music played an important role in the political struggles of the 1980s and 1990s, and Jackson Browne wrote music about many of the issues on which Gráfica artists also focused. Connected to the Chilean community, Browne befriended Francisco Letelier, son of assassinated Chilean ambassador Orlando Letelier. Browne commissioned Francisco to create an album cover for World in Motion. Annie Liebowitz’s photograph of Browne; disjointed collaged elements of ghostly figures and the Vietnam War Memorial; and small overlapping boxes all contribute to the sense of chaos. The printing of this large work originated with four-color process printing. The original collage was photographed and separated into the standard four-color halftone printing technique. Letelier overprinted 10 to 12 additional spot colors to add visual richness to the print.
