As the early 2000s tech industry fueled gentrification, San Francisco experienced a huge rise in displacements and evictions. The San Francisco Print Collective (SFPC), working out of Mission Gráfica, partnered with the Coalition on Homelessness to create a poster campaign about the Dot Com bubble’s effect on poor people. SFPC involved several regular Gráfica artists, including monoprint teacher Alexandra Blum. Blum’s work is generally abstract, but here she steps into the political realm with a clever reworking of Monopoly. The “game” highlights San Francisco features in its interactive form, visually rendering the destructive force of gentrification.
