Bringing together many of the attributes that Mission Gráfica embodies—artistic vision, skilled printing, internationalism and the concept that the “personal is political”—this print exemplifies a successful informal collaboration between artist and printer, part of Gráfica’s dynamism.
Mexican/Oaxacan artist Domitila Domínguez arrived at Gráfica with the goal of creating a print with Castro and Sances to explore her indigenous identity and personal story. Domi had not previously made screenprints, but had a definite vision. She insisted, for example, on a particularly glossy, red ink. Here, Domi portrays herself as the main figure in blue. Her partner, Antonio Ramírez, also printed at Gráfica at this time; he is the smaller figure in yellow.
