Tatuaje is part of the Nueve Mujeres (Nine Women) portfolio organized by Mission Gráfica director Juan R. Fuentes and centered on concepts of artists’ identities and cultures. Magical realism pervades Aragon’s print, highlighting her Peruvian roots. The tattoo not only covers the couple, but integrates them with the landscape. Most of the portfolio’s artists were visual artists who had never screenprinted. Fuentes helped those artists unfamiliar with the medium realize their images. For this print, Aragorn first arrived with a realized design that Fuentes broke down into printing layers. Aragon then drew the different color separations on clear polyester film, which Fuentes printed.
