Robles came to Gráfica in 1986. He soon began volunteering at Gráfica under René Castro’s direction, and in 1992, became Castro’s assistant. When the Zapatistas emerged from the jungles of Southern Mexico and launched an indigenous revolution, U.S.-based support groups sprang to life in the Mission. Robles made several posters for one such group, Committee of Support for the Zapatista (Comite de Apoyo Zapatista). The bold uprising and its strong indigenous identity inspired Gráfica artists. They created posters in support of many indigenous struggles in Mexico, which were often used as educational and fundraising tools.
