We had an incredible event in California in 2019, the Super Bloom. An unusual amount of rain during the winter and spring resulted in enormous numbers of poppies and other wildflowers. People stopped on the freeways just to take photos of the hills. The Poppy Reserve in Lancaster was actually closed, because there were too many people. Around Lake Elsinore in Southern California, the orange hills could even be seen from space.
