The camera sees what my eye cannot perceive.
In the 1966 film Blow-Up, a photographer takes pictures of a woman in a park. By the glow of red light, he enlarges the image on paper. He sees something in the bushes.
I remember how I felt watching him watch an image slowly emerge as the paper floats in the developer. That moment of mystery–of developing film into negatives and negatives onto paper is a process lost in my digital world. I can see an image immediately on the screen of my camera, but I still can’t see detail until I blow the file up on my computer.
The lens reveals numbers on the face of this tiny watch. What is there that the camera sees? I don’t adjust the color. I let the camera have its say in my process. – Stephanie Taylor
