Larry McNeil Tlingit/Nisgáa, b. 1955 X’áant xwaanúk Tléil yee ushk’é, I’m angry you are bad, 2010 Digital photograph Collection of the C.N. Gorman Museum, UC Davis. Gift of Phillip Rudnick. Larry McNeil has also titled this photograph White Raven Ceremonial, a part of his 2010 series, “Global Climate Change 2.” The artist describes the raven as “bearing witness to the atmospheric inferno unleashed by coal power plants.” According to a Tlingit legend, the raven was white before he stole the sun from a greedy aristocrat. Considering this legend, who might McNeil be comparing to the greedy aristocrat?
