Pins were a popular way to raise awareness of and show support for people living with HIV or AIDS.
The "Silence = Death" pins reference a project by ACT UP, or AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power. Founded in 1987, this international, grassroots political group continues to work to end the AIDS epidemic.
