Marwin Begaye Diné (Navajo), b. 1970 Atseetuts’ii (Red Tail Hawk), 2016 Print Collection of the C.N. Gorman Museum, UC Davis. Gift of the artist. Marwin Begaye’s work usually depicts birds that are significant to his Navajo heritage. The Red Tail Hawk is respected in Navajo traditions as an efficient and precise hunter. Beyond this cultural significance, birds have also served as guides for his artistic process. “I began observing the birds that visited my home, feeding them, and giving them my attention. As I worked my way back to the center, the birds have guided me on my journey.”– Marwin Begaye
