Susan Point Coast Salish, b. 1952 Frog and Butterfly, 1990 Serigraph Collection of the C.N. Gorman Museum, UC Davis. Gift of John W. Brinley. Susan Point is a Coast Salish artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. In Northwest Coast cultures, Butterfly is often associated with transformation, resurrection, beauty, and grace, while Frog is revered for its adaptability: inhabiting the worlds of land and water, the natural and supernatural. It is said that the touch of Frog’s tongue on another initiates an exchange of knowledge and power.
