Calypso Orchids (Calypso bulbosa)
Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin County
Rob Badger photographs orchids at Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin County.
Rob and Nita use natural daylight to illuminate living blossoms, allowing them to capture the essence of wildflowers where they actually live. Often changing natural light creates variations in the quality, intensity, and direction of the light, offering unanticipated and exciting results.
Nita and Rob attempt to control natural light and wind movement with man-made and natural tools. These include reflectors, diffusion discs, fabrics, Plexiglas, Velcro straps, camera bags, jackets, rocks, twigs, and anything else nearby. For this shot, Rob used a light diffusing disc (not shown) to soften the harsh sunlight falling on the flowers.Interpretative Labels
