"Step 3: Experimental Outplanting" — Researcher Andrew Kim from Moss Landing Marine Labs and his colleagues deploy seeded twine on lifted underwater infrastructure, keeping lab-grown kelps out of harm's way. Researchers have attempted numerous substrates and techniques to grow kelp in the lab and ocean, each with a unique set of benefits and challenges. Findings show that restoration techniques are very location-specific, so having multiple options gives the biggest chance for success. Combined efforts, such as kelp enhancement and grazer supression, show promising results. Albion, California. July 2023 by Abbey Dias @abbeydias
