Label

This pair of torcheres, or floor lamps, was purchased for the Ballroom by the Bourn couple from Bagués Paris, along with the fireplace and lighting. Made of carved gilded wood, these may have been intended to be plant stands, but were converted into floor lamps by placing girandoles (ornamental candle holders) on top. The girandoles that were placed on top were also custom made, containing cut topaz and amethyst crystals. They were made to match the wall sconces and chandelier in the Ballroom. The pair was sold by the Roth family in 1975 and were recently found at an auction by chance. They required extensive restoration and can now be seen on display in the Reception Room.
