Company H of the 4th Alabama Infantry Regiment was formed in April of 1861, shortly after Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter. The flag was presented on April 27th 1861 outside of Wesleyan Hall at what was then Wesleyan University.
The writing on this flag is "Ladies of Florence to Lauderdale Volunteers." It has seven stars, representing the seven states that had seceded from the United States at the time it was made.
