Context

The Kennedy Long Rifle was manufactured by David S. Kennedy, who learned the trade from his father, Alexander, who manufactured rifles for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. David's factory was located in North Carolina and he produced long rifles prized for their accuracy. David's son Hiram owned a plantation in Green Hill, Alabama, and David moved there in his later years. It is not known for certain if this gun was manufactured in North Carolina or Alabama, but it was manufactured by David Kennedy; his signature is on the top of the barrel.
