Folsom

Name/Title

Folsom

Entry/Object ID

HJH.P.1919.P.045

Description

The Folsom point type has a distinctive flute running the length of the blade. The flute allowed the point to attach to a split spear shaft. The point also has a concave base. The Folsom point originates from the western plains region of the United States and was named for the Folsom site in New Mexico. The discovery of these points in the 1920s caused scientists and archaeologists to rethink how long people had been living in North America, because the points were found with an extinct species of bison.
