Wedding handkerchief of Elizabeth Woods (1838-1865), who married Samuel Kirkman on June 3rd, 1858 in Nashville, TN. Behind the handkerchief is a piece of curtain made in about 1845. Samuel Kirkman (1832-1903) graduated from Harvard University in 1850 and was engaged in cotton manufacturing in Tuscaloosa during the Civil War. He later worked as a cotton crop statistician. Susan Kirkman Vaughn was their daughter and the first curator of the collection now at Pope's Tavern.
