Between 1861 and 1865, 10,000 of these firearms were imported into the Confederate States from England. This gun was designed for cavalry use and adopted from the earlier 1853 Enfield Rifle. They were manufactured by the John Edward Barnett & Sons of London, England. Inscription reads: 4th AL Cav. Co. B. JM.)
