Jasper Rush Sutherland was born in 1913 in Clintwood, VA. He was a teacher in Virginia before joining the United States Army in 1941, where he participated in 5 European campaigns as an officer in the 79th Infantry Division. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1948. He served as the duty officer of the radio cable unit, Adjutant-General's Section, General Headquarters, Far East Command. He returned to Virginia after the war, where we worked as an assistant principal and later with the State Health Department.
