Gold, satin evening dress with beaded embroidery detailing, c1900

Context

A fancy dress like this would be reserved for a luxurious occasion that called for at least black-tie, or even white-tie attire. White-tie is considered the most formal dress code and was more common in the early 1900s and earlier. Likely worn by a woman of greater wealth status, this dress would have been hand-made as well as tailored exclusively for the client, and the beads hand-stitched. A prime example of bespoke clothing from the Edwardian period.
