Scope and Content

This is a project that attempts to document the Stewart Spring neighborhood that existed in Florence from the late 1800's through the early 1960's, before it was removed by an urban renewal project initiated by the City of Florence and what is now the University of North Alabama.

Context

This project attempts to document the history of the people who lived in the Stewart Spring neighborhood through oral histories, photographs, newspaper clippings, and artwork. It was envisioned and led by Anita Smith Cobb.
