William Anderson Patton was the son of Robert Miller Patton, who served as the first president of the Florence Synodical College and governor of Alabama from 1865 until he was removed in 1867 William served as a 2nd Lt. in the 16th Alabama Infantry and was killed at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862.
