This is an early canvas mail bag. Lockable. Had a U shaped clamp that was locked at the base so you couldn't open it. Each bag had a tin stencil or tin plate with the, name of the property and the owner on it as well. Hard to find in good condition nowadays. This one has originated from Beaufort area, could be StoneleighCollection
