Description

"Australian Shearer" Prototype, this was constructed by Suckling Bell at Murrurundi in Queensland in the railway workshops. The era was 1888, the prototype in 1887. This handpiece was driven with a piston construction at the back driven by compressed air, a very early method of mechanisation. This handpiece is a prototype of the suckling bell "Australian Shearer". This is from the period of 1887. This is stamped number 31. From this the Australian shearer was developed. This still has the piston operated back air compressed part of it.
