Description

Sangeet Collection. This is a lamp of American origins. It has a story. This lamp was installed in the public hall at Scarsdale approximately 1865. At the end of the hall's life, the lamp was rescued and, It was found under the stage. It was found in a box under the stage, had been there for many, many years. It's only had 2 owners previous to coming to this collection. It is stamped July 1865 on the metalwork. It has a Sherwood smoke cap and at the moment, a Sherwood burner which corresponds with the age of the lamp. This is an extraordinarily rare lamp both in America and Australia. There is only one other known example of this lamp in Australia.
