These were used by gardeners in the early days of settlement. A copy of an implement bought from England to create the very orderly English gardens. So it was poked into the ground. The top part had a line string, the far end was pegged to the ground, and they planted bulbs or whatever, was on the go in very straight, neat rows.Collection
