This piece is referred to as a lazy back or easy back. These were used in the days of, fireplace heating of cooking and heating of food. This held or fitted into the handle of a cast iron kettle. In order to stop lifting of the kettle, that long extended handle tilted the kettle to pour the water rather than lifting. These are a very hard thing to find.Collection
