This is a beautiful early punch barrel from Melbourne Tramways. It is a double coded apparatus each punch activates a bell and each punched out piece is collected in the barrel underneath that holds the segments from the tickets. The bell and collected ticket pieces were used as a means of keeping the tram conductors honest... This one has a rearing horse, image on it. It's got patent, June 16th 1874.
