Description

This handpiece is from the Union Grace Company. They produced two models. One was called Grace, the other one Union. The Union is very hard to find. This one, is known as a Grace handpiece, was an Australian Design. 1891. DG&M (A15) This is an extremely good model of this one, with original leather back joint and grip cover. A very unique design. The original Grace patent was taken out in 1891, and in the original shear the fork was replaced by flexible revolving shaft joined at its inner end by a universal coupling to the long spindle and at its outer end having a disk with crank pin, the latter connected by guide block to the cutter; the guide block ran in guides formed by the surface of the comb and a bar transversely across the falred end of the shear body above the block. The guide block had a cam groove or slot in which the crank pin transmitted the drive. The guide block had a roller or other anti friction bearing on top and bottom. This however is a later version with a very short fork with centre pivot and the usual back drive. Tension was suppl;lied from the tension nut, seen at the back of the lid, through hinged platesto a ball which pressed on the upper surface of the fork, thus iliminating friction as far as possible.
