Description

"Australian Shearer" Prototype, this was constructed by Suckling Bell at Murrurundi in Queensland in the railway workshops. This handpiece was driven with a piston construction at the back driven by compressed air, a very early method of mechanisation. This handpiece is a prototype of the suckling bell "Australian Shearer". This is from the period of 1887. This is stamped number 31. From this the Australian shearer was developed. Very few of these around. I only know of one other one. This is a crude prototype in comparison to what the production model "The Australian Shearer" was.
