The Smoko. 1895. DG&M (A18) The Smoko was manufactured by Newell Brothers in London. The casting is of superb quality known as a wax casting which is very good quality. This one is all complete with its original back joint and cogs. Very good condition.
This smok is interesting as being the forrunner of the "chickenfoot" front end of fork popular to-day on several makes of shear. Note the ninetooth comb and special cutter, only one driving hole in the latter being round andthe other being slotted to take rectangular shaped drive pin.
