Ballarat Electric Tramways fare token, 1½d, 1913. Circular light-brown/pink celluloid token, approximately 21 mm diameter, inscribed “BALLARAT ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS 1913” around “B.E.T.” Reverse marked “1½D”. Issued by the Electric Supply Company of Victoria for use on Ballarat's electric tramways. Tokens were sold in advance to regular passengers at a discounted price and used instead of cash fares, particularly in connection with the introduction of one-man tramcars. Celluloid tokens replaced slip tickets because they functioned more effectively in the tramway fare boxes. Token system withdrawn in 1921.Collection
