Fred L. Thomson (1907-1985) was descended from one of the first settler families in the Portage la Prairie area. He had acquired a large collection of settler and Indigenous artifacts, and when the Fort la Reine Museum was established in 1967, Thomson donated hundreds of items. These artefacts formed the core of the museum's original collection, and can still be found spread across the museum today. The portrait was painted by local artist Wanda Ryder.Collection
