Description

Earring belonging to Mary McLeod, wife of HBC laborer John McLeod. Mary was born in 1827/1828 as "Claquadote (T'Laquodete)" into the Cowlitz Tribe. She married John McLeod around 1844 and died in April of 1889. The earring has a top hinged piece with a circle with small line design stamped into it. There is a drop portion that hangs from the hinged piece that has a hammered upper cone shape, and a lower smooth upside-down cone chape with a small ball-point at the very tip. The earring is made of some sort of silver alloy and is 1 1/2 inches total in length. The top portion only measures 11/16 inches and the drop piece measures 1 1/16 inches.
