Description

Pewter Clyster with wooden handle, overall length of 18 3/4 in from tip to end of handle. Cylindrical mid-section is 9 1/4 in long & 3 in diameter. Wood handle 3 1/2 long, nozzle end 6 in long. Artifact was used for irrigating and evacuation of fecal material from the bowels and lower digestive tract. In the 19th century it was also used for delivery of drugs.
