Description

HBC "Country Made" double bedstead, c. 1850, believed to have been made by John McLeod either at Fort Nisqually or one of the PSAC farms. Bedstead consists of headboard, footboard, two side rails & three iron rods to support cross boards that mattress rests on. Dimensions when assembled 75" long (outside edge of headboard to outside edge of footboard), two side rails 71 1/4" long, 53 3/4" wide (outside edges of posts on headboard & footboard) 48" wide (inside edges of posts on headboard & footboard) and 36" high (floor to top of corner posts). Iron rods are approximately 76" total length. Bedstead is of some local wood, possibly Douglas Fir and has some reddish-brown finish which is very faded (could be a stain or possibly very old Spanish brown paint).
