Description

Mid-19th century shaving box, features mirror that can be folded out to stand upright, and drawer. Measures 10 1/4 inches long, 7 1/8 inches wide, 11 inches tall when opened with mirror propped up, 3 inches tall when closed. The mirror measures 4 inches by 6 3/4 inches, and has a crack in the lower corner. This shaving box matches up with the description of the "wooden shaving box" as mention in the Ross Report on page 179, including a reference to such a box at Fort Vancouver, and "shaving boxes" are listed on packing lists of trade goods sent to Fort Nisqually for sale in the shop.
