Northwest trade gun, manufactured by Parker Field and Co. and marked with date 1856. This gun originally had a flintlock firing mechanism, but was converted to percussion caps at some point. This type of conversion was very typical of NW trade guns in the 1850s as percussion caps became more widely available. Gun shows the typical Northwest Trade Gun dragon or serpent motif on side ornament. Overall length of gun is approximately 52 inches and butt plate is 4 3/4 inches. Separate ramrod is 35 1/2 inches in length.Dimensions
