1987.13.01Description
Iron jaw harp, stamped into the iron at mouth piece is "Made in England". The harp appears to be made from 1/4 inch square stock iron, although it is possible that only the thin central piece was applied by forging. Measures 4 1/8 inches in overall length, and handle is 2 1/2 inches wide at widest point. This was a common trade good, listed on several invoices of goods shipped to Fort Nisqually and available for sale in the Sale Shop. A "Jew's Harp" could provide musical entertainment in any situation, as it was small, portable, and not too difficult to learn.Inscription/Signature/Marks
