Shake maul, all wood. Probably used with 1981.09.01a&b, a froe, to split wood along the grain. "Shake" in this context refers to a wooden shingle made from split logs. Measures 14 1/2 inches overall length, the head measures 7 7/8 inches by 6 inches and is an oblong shape. The handle is 6 inches long and 1 1/8 inches in diameter. At Fort Nisqually, batches of cedar shingles were accepted in trade for credit at the Sale Shop. The shingles were then used as roofing materials by the fort or shipped out to buyers as needed.Dimensions
